A Happy New Year to all of the friends of Castle Tintagel!
Looking back on 2018, it was a big year for Tintagel. The most important thing to happen was that we finally came to grips with who we were as an organization: We train knights. Our members sturdy the fighting skills of a knight of the 14th or 15th, both armored and unarmored, along with the physical training use those skills. With this came a new coordinated curriculum and the soft opening of our Medieval Battle Sports system. We are very pleased with the new program, it has been wonderful watching the members’ fighting skills improve so quickly!
As Tintagel enters its second decade, you can only expect more excitement. There will improvements in our Branch system, after a year of seeing what works, and what doesn’t. Even better, later this year we will publish our first book of introductory Kishido skills. It will be a primer for anyone interested in getting onto martial arts. 2019 will be the year that Kishido spreads throughout Japan.
You will also be able to expect many events. In next few weeks, we will publish our schedule for 2019. In addition to our usual monthly Challenge Days, Tournament of Hearts, and Blades of the Dragon events, you can expect international guests as we coordinate with our new friends, SHMA the Shanghai HEMA and Buhurt school based in Shanghai. Tintagel members travel the world, meet new and exciting people, and fight them (with hugs, laughs, and drinks afterward).
2019 is the beginning of a new era for both Japan and Castle Tintagel. I am so glad for you to be a part of it. And remember: Fight like a Knight!
