Knight School
These class focus on the unarmoured fighting arts of the medieval knights. Dead for centuries, medieval German fencing has only recently been resurrected from historical texts by a handful of practioners around the world. Although there a many schools and clubs that study German Fencng in North America and Europe, Castle Tintagel is the first to offer these rare skill to Japan.
Currently students can study German two-handed sword and sword an buckler in the 15th century Lichtenhauer style. Each class will introduce them to aggressive styles of swordplay that are utterly distinct from those of Japan and China.
In addition to studying a unique martial art, students will also hear stories of chivalry and learn about the arts in their historical context.

★ What can you expect in the lessons
- You will develop the physical characteristics needed to pursue a martial art: strength, flexibility, timing, and balance
- Learning the skills of unarmoured longsword or sword and buckler, including grappling techniques.
- As your skills and confidence progress, you can look forward to sparring with other students.
★ Equipment:
- The primary practice tool at Knight School is the "Soft Sword", which are specially constructed padded tools that approximate the weight, size, and balance of a real longsword.
-We encourage students to wear historical clothing, although any sports wear is acceptable. Shoes should be flat soled.
- In sparring, we use padded gloves, fencing masks, and neck and groin protection. New students can borrow equipment, but over time they are expected to purchase their own gear.
