In order to promote the study of European Martial Arts, Castle Tintagel holds regular open practices at which fighters can spar and challenge opponents to friendly matches. Improve your prowess at our open practices! Non-members are quite welcome!

There are two types of practices: soft sword and heavy armoured practice.

◆Soft Sword Practices: Attending softsword fighters must use weapons approved by the safety marshal. The minimum standard equipment are padded gloves, a fencing helmet, and a gorget, although fighters may wear more armour if they feel it is necessary. Fighters must agree to follow the sparring rules and safety guidelines set down by the safety marshal.

◆Heavy Armoured Practice: Fight at as a fully armoured warrior! At our regular practices armoured fighters must follow the minimum safety standards of the Avalon fighting system. For standard practices, the various Avalon sparring rules are the most commonly used; other safety rules must first be accepted by the presiding safety marshal.

◆Group Practices: Clubs and Circles, such as Avalon or the SCA, who are interested in armoured practice are welcome to practice together in Tintagel's open practice. However, Tintagel's schedule is always independent. Even if the private group cancel's its attendence on a particular day, Tintagel's practice will still be open.

◆Safety Note: In all sparring practices, Tintagel reserves the right to bar anyone from fighting if the attending marshal determines that they are a danger to themselves or others. The marshal may also bar any armour or practice weapons at will.

◆Disclaimer: Sparring is never 100% risk free. All fighters fight at their own risk! Although the safety marshal will attempt to minimize danger, ultimately each fighter's safety is his or her own responsibility.

1st-time visitors and Guests of Members: 1000 yen

Non-member Observers: 500 yen
